Lors de sa 84e s\u00e9ance en f\u00e9vrier 2014, le Comit\u00e9 de l\u2019ONU pour l\u2019\u00e9limination de la discrimination raciale (CERD) a examin\u00e9 les efforts engag\u00e9s par la Suisse pour lutter contre la discrimination sur son territoire. Dans ses recommandations, il s\u2019est montr\u00e9 tr\u00e8s inquiet de la pr\u00e9sence dans les m\u00e9dias et dans le discours politique de st\u00e9r\u00e9otypes et de stigmatisation de plusieurs groupes de personnes, dont les personnes demandeuses d\u2019asile.<\/span><\/p>\n

Racism and xenophobia in politics and media<\/strong><\/p>\n

12. The Committee is deeply concerned at racist stereotypes promoted by members of right-wing populist parties and sections of the media, in particular against people from Africa and South-eastern Europe, Muslims, Travellers\/Yenish, Roma, asylum-seekers and immigrants.<\/p>\n

The Committee recommends that the State party:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Undertake extensive and systematic awareness raising activities at alllevels in the public and political spheres to combat stigmatization, generalizations,stereotyping and prejudice against non-citizens with a clear message concerning the abhorrence of racial discrimination, which seeks to degrade the standing of individuals and groups in the estimation of society, taking into account the Committee\u2019s general recommendation no. 30 (2004) on discrimination against non-citizens;<\/li>\n
  2. Take appropriate measures towards ensuring that media representations of ethnic groups are based on principles of respect, fairness and the avoidance of stereotyping, and that media avoid referring unnecessarily to race, ethnicity, religion and other group characteristics in a manner that may promote intolerance;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
