This is a trend similar to what other European countries are experiencing and is directly related to the international situation. In the supplementary information provided on our website regarding the prejudice «Invasion,» we also offer a European comparison that shows Switzerland is comparatively less affected by the increase in asylum applications. As the Federal Statistical Office has not yet published its 2015 census of the resident population, the proportion of people eligible for asylum remains the same as in 2014, i.e., 1%.

DECEPTION? 79% asylum applications reviewed On the merits, in 2015, this resulted in refugee status or provisional admission. Slightly up from 2014, this result is obtained by subtracting the decisions of non-admission (Nem), which account for 33% of the resolved cases because these decisions do not concern the grounds for asylum invoked by asylum seekers. The majority of NEM decisions are Dublin NEMs, which the European agency Eurostat also excludes from its tables on protection rates: they are supposed to be subject to an examination of the grounds for asylum in another Dublin State, and may also result in protection from the said State.

How are you?: An average of 1% of potentially employable asylum seekers (holding an N permit) were working in 2015 (compared to 3% in 2014). This decline can be attributed to the increase in new arrivals holding an N permit: they are subject to a work ban for 3 months, or even 6 months. As for holders of a provisional admission permit (F permit) and recognized refugees (B refugee permit), an average of 30% and 21 %, respectively, were employed in 2015.
